Today SOMEŞ Water is continuing the best traditions of a utility company which has acted in the community?s service for more than one hundred twelve years.

1892 - The Water and Sewage Plants are established through the decision of Cluj City hall taking over the patrimony existent at that time:

the Bărnuţiu Garden source approx. 1, 700 cubic meters/day; a 140 cubic meter reservoir within the Carolina Hospital
4.4 km of water networks, 0.13 km of sewage networks
the city had a population of approx. 35, 000 inhabitants.
1893 The sources, reservoirs and networks site is opened.
1893 - The site for the sources, tanks and networks is opened.

1900 - Floreşti underground source and a 2, 000 cubic meter reservoir are set into operation. The city of Cluj has 42.3 km of water networks and 20.6 km of sewage networks. The water production is of 7, 500 cubic meters/day.

1919 - A new intake front Şapca Verde is set into operation within Floreşti underground source.

1930 - Cluj Water and Sewage Plants (U.A.C.C) becomes public company. Grigorescu Plant, a 700 mm cross section, VIANINI type water main, made of centrifuged reinforced concrete pipes, and a new intake front for the underground waters from Floreşti are set into operation.

1940 - The city has 160 km of water networks, 79 km of sewage networks, 6, 950 connections and a production of 18, 500 cubic meters/day for 116, 500 inhabitants.

1973 - Gilău Water Purification Plant is commissioned. Gilău (reservoir lake) surface source with a capacity of approx. 60, 000 cubic meters/day is set into operation as well as a water main with a 1, 000 mm section, PREMO type, 16.5 km in length.

1973 - 1977 - Cluj Waste Water Treatment Plant is built, on the left bank of the Someşul Mic River, downstream the city. The technological solution comprises mechanical and biological stage treatment.
